What counts as research

The Standard for Research

Not every idea becomes research. At CRI, work is recognized as research only when it meets strict conditions.

A Question That Can Be Examined

Research begins with a question—not an opinion or a topic. Claims must be examinable through data, texts, observation, or scholarship.

A Method That Holds

Without method, work does not move forward. Research requires a structure that allows assumptions to be questioned and decisions revisited.

A Contribution, Not a Summary

Research is not a recap of what already exists. It must clarify what changes, what is added, or what becomes newly understood.

Who can apply?

Summer in-person programs take rising Grade 9 through university students. Winter online programs are recommended for Grades 9–12; university students may also join. 1-on-1 research depends on readiness rather than age.

Can a parent or agency apply for the student?

Yes. Create a parent or guardian account, enter the student's details in the form, and follow the application and decision from your own portal. Admissions links the student's account once they are admitted.

What does it cost?

There is no application fee. Program tuition is shown on each program page and is only due after admission.

Does the student need a research topic already?

No. A genuine interest is enough. The application asks what you would like to investigate; the mentor and TA help shape it into a question that can be examined.

Is the research published?

Students write their own manuscript. Journal submission and acceptance are separate steps; publication and university admission are not guaranteed.

What language are programs taught in?

English. Faculty mentors and TAs teach and give feedback in English, and the paper is written in English.

What if we need to cancel?

Cohorts are small and preparation begins at registration, so cancellation terms depend on timing. See the cancellation and refund policy before paying.
